Do you believe ACORN stole the 2008 election?

ACORN is an organization which is only partially (about 15%) funded by the federal government. Among their many functions, they do registration drives, mainly in inner-city areas, to register people to vote. No matter what name is given on the form, ACORN, by law is required to submit the forms to the government. ACORN has no incentive whatsoever to submit fraudulent forms.

However, the Republican mis-information machine is so effective, that 21% of participants said “yes”, ACORN stole the 2008 election. Only 24% said “no”, and 55% said they were “not sure”. 76% of people in this poll aren't 100% sure that this past election wasn't “stolen”. For the record, President Obama won by seven percentage points, over 8,500,000 votes, and 192 electoral college votes.  President Obama received more votes for President than anyone, ever.  ACORN is credited with registering about a million voters for the 2008 election season.

Do you believe Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama?

53% of all respondents said “yes”. 14% said “no”. 33% said they were “not sure”. Say what you will about “having executive experience”, but there is, one would imagine, more to be said about “knowing the subject material”. One clearly does. The other clearly doesn't. “Scary” doesn't even begin to approach a strong enough word to describe this poll question response.

Do you believe Barack Obama is a racist who hates White people?

31% of all persons polled answered “yes”. 36% said “no”. 33% said they were “not sure”. President Obama's late mother was white. Fully one-half of President Obama's family is white.

Do you believe your state should secede from the United States?

23% of the “self-identified” Republicans in this poll answered “yes”. 58% said “no”. 19% weren't “sure”. The idea of secession was tested once in this country's history. That test is known as “The Civil War”. The result from that test is that secession is tantamount to treason and actionable upon by the military. It is the main guarantee that every state made when they agreed to and signed into statehood. They must remain part of the Union.

Should gay couples receive any state or federal benefits?

11% of the total pool of respondents said “yes”. 68% said “no”. 21% said they were “not sure”. In a related fact, there are currently scores of gay (openly and closeted) Republicans at every level (local, state and federal) of government who not only receive pay, but health insurance and other benefits; all paid for by taxpayer dollars.

Should openly gay men and women be allowed to teach in public schools?

Only 8% of “self-identified” Republicans answered “yes” to this question. 73% said “no”. 19% said they were “not sure”. There isn't a word that properly expresses the response to this question. “Startling” may come the closest.

Should public school students be taught that the book of Genesis in the Bible explains how God created the world?

Please note that the question directly specifies “public schools”.

Please also note that American Citizens are guaranteed the Freedom of Religion via the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

For the answers, 77% answered “yes”, 15% “no”, and 8% “not sure”. Two more quick notes here; first, there is no National Religion specified in any way by the United States Government. Also, the separation of church and state is a doctrine directly derived by that same First Amendment to the United States Constitution. More information can be found here.

The fact that so many Republicans live in some kind of Orwellian alternate reality (call it Planet Fox News or Limbaughland) where ignorance is regarded as strength, is at least partially due to a school system that puts little emphasis on teaching the rules of logic and critical thinking. Intellectual mental retardation is not incurable but it's best treated by prevention.
