The Michigan USGWA Girls Wrestling State Championships saw 4 national finalist and 2 All-Americans claim titles in the high school division.
Marian Bosma of Hesperia pulled off a huge upset, knocking off the nations top-ranked wrestler in Julia Salata of Canton to win the 143lb state title. Salata was the 2009 USA Junior Women's National Champ and a 2009 USGWA All-American. Bosma is no slouch herself, finished 2009 as the USGWA National Runner-Up. State titles seem to run in the Bosma Family as Marian's brother, Jordan, won his first state title the following weekend.
2009 USGWA National Runner-Up Brenda Brzoznowski of Iron River won the state title at 122lbs via pin over Stephanie Morris of Lapeer. Stephanie Morris is a 2009 USGWA All-American finishing 4th at last years natioanls.
2009 USGWA National Runner-Up Kayla Petit of Goodrich won the state title at 128lbs via pin over Tayrn Goslow of Hazel Park.
2009 USGWA National Runner-Up Stephanie Tucker of Swartz Creek won the state title at 182lbs via pin over Anastasia Philips of Ogemaw Heights.
2009 USGWA All-American (6th at 133lbs) Melissa Vernon of Lake Orion won the state title at 136lbs via pin over Leigha Grannell of Pigeon.
2009 USGWA All-American (3rd at 139lbs) Crystal Borrow won the state title at 146lbs via a 6-0 decision against Andrea Parkinson of Midland.
