Darren Decker, 2009 Miss USA
“Let it Rock” was the theme of the 2009 Miss USA contest held April 19 in Las Vegas. Although many want to talk about the “crowning” moment of the night… not when Miss North Carolina was crowned as Miss USA, but when Miss California answered her question about same-sex marriage. That will most defiantly be a YouTube moment, so I would rather focus on the fashion of the night.
The best fashion moment would have to be the swimsuit competition. This year’s top 15 contestants strutted their stuff in a bikini from the lovely and fashionable collection of Jessica Simpson. These white triangle-style suits, accented with gold trim are a hot swimsuit look for this summer. Retailed at $108, you can now buy this same bikini at jessicasimponcollection.com.
Another inspirational fashion trend seen at the Miss USA pageant is the evening gown that Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton wore as she was crowned. It was a deep blue, flowing Grecian gown that really stood out amongst the sea of white that was her competition. Although this gown is not something that could be copied in the “real” world, parts of the look can be translated comfortably for day-to-day living. The bold, bright blue would work great as a shirt or mid-length dress if you are scared of wearing too much blue. Or you can check out Jessica Simpson’s Collection and you can find a great dress similar to Miss North Carolina’s, which is a lot more casual. The movement to the clothing is a trendy summer look too, think loose, flowing blouses. Pair the look with minimal accessories and you too can look like a beauty queen.
