Los Angeles Theater. GenArt Headlining
Friday, March 13th, 2009 there is a slight chill in the air, but that does stop the fashion obsessed women on their way to the Gen Art Fall 2009 fashion show from dressing to the nines! Fact is, it may be chilly on the outside but it is warm and bustling with delicious schmoozing on the inside. (Oh and honorable mention to that, free drinks! My New Yorker at heart thanks the wine company that sponsored the evening. Menage a Trois? or something of the sort. It wasn’t very good, just free... )
So back to the scene. The crowd was mixed. Varying in age and fashion preferences. Most prevalent trends in the crowd were, jumpsuits, boyfriend jackets with miniskirts, fringed dresses and I’m sorry to say, leggings, leggings and more leggings. And most noticeable in that, was lace leggings and strategically torn leggings. And the most noticeable and notable legging styling was with shorts and platform shoes and also with Alexander Wang-esque Tee’s and The new open toe slouchy boot. (I’ll look into this shoe and get back to you, its new, sexy and crazy chic! I NEED a pair right now!)
But reality is, who cares! It’s all about the runway shows, right?! ;) Well here’s a quick review of each line.
Grai - I’d call it liquid goth. Use of liquid fabrics, black, shimmer, silver, mixing of sporty jacket silhouettes looks with drapey mermaid skirt shapes.
Society for Rational Dress - Most sportswear like and wearable for the everyday shopper. Nice contrast of leather and soft draped Chiffon. Favorite items were the chain-mail esque vests and the chunky sweater cocoon collars! Very cool.
Raquel Allegra - Amazingly delicate cobweb crochet pieces in black, grey, and tan tie-dye, ranging from asymmetrical poncho to dresses to just amazing drapes paired with leather second skin dresses and knee length leggings. Styled with western hats and oxford shoes.
Final thought? Most definitely keep your eyes out for Raquel Allegra. You will be seeing her delicate sweater knit ponchos, drapes, and dresses everywhere soon. It's the most amazing elevation to Los Angeles chic. There is more LA fashion week to come, so keep your fashion hats on, and I’ll see you on the streets!

MORE MORE MORE PLEASE.
Thank you for taking the leg work out of it for us- just delivering the essential tasty bits we need to know about 09 fashion. First time I have really been excited about what's going on in Fashion. You take the guess work out. I look forward to the week ahead.
I need more info on this shorts with leggings thing. Seems to the be the hot look on American Idol this year. (I guess I'm pretty out of the fashion loop when I get my updates from American Idol!)
