Femme Noir by Phong Hong final walk
And Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week commences! Held at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, this was a great start to the upcoming couple days of fashion shows, meet and greets and presentations. Kicking off the shows was the first time ever, Emerging Designers Runway Showcase.
(Side bar: Also a first time for the City of Los Angeles to be partnering in a fashion event. With the Mayor Antonio Villariogsa and his Fashion Ambassador, Cynthia Ruiz leading the way, they have taken a smart move in promoting the Los Angeles fashion Industry. Knowing there is SO much talent hidden in the vast streets of LA, it was time to showcase to the world that Los Angeles is a fashion force to be reckoned with.) Back to the story:
Fernanda Carniero final walk
So along side Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week or DLAFW for short, the Department of Cultural Affairs of the City of Los Angeles created the Fashion Angel Awards. An ode to the up and coming rising creative and design talent from Los Angeles. This first year, three honorees were given the opportunity to show at DLAFW. The judging was by Los Angeles mainstays: Randolph Duke, Nony Tochterman of Petro Zillia, Nick Verreos of Project Runway fame, Jeffery Sebelia, Project Runway Season 3 winner, louis Verdad and Vanessa Gonzalez, contestant of BRAVO’s “Launch my Line” series. And this seasons Emerging designers and Fashion Angels were Phong Hong, Fernanda Carneiro and design team Jaquetta O’Dell and Krysta Henry. And walking in their designs were emerging models from Ford Models.
Here's the Runway Recap:
Who: Femme Noir by Phong Hong
What: Elegant, romantic feminine, yet sexy, and very cohesive as a collection
Wear: Romantic dresses, flirty skirts, Chiffon rosettes, ruffles, vintage & sophisticated palette of champagne, creams, and violets, silk Charmeuse chiffon and even printed violet lace.
Final thought: I’d like to see wedding dresses from Phong Hong for sure.
Krys n Jack final walk
Who: Fernanda Carneiro
What: Soft structure, Sweet femininity, or perhaps feminine work chic. Pleats, tucks, colorblocks and button details.
Wear: Structured skirts with blouses, separates and some dresses, soft palette pinks, yellows and lilacs. Colorblocked with warm camel and touches of floral prints.
Final thought: I’m not usually a fan of “Pepto” pink but mixed in with the neutrals gives it a more wearable look.
Who: Krys N Jack designed by Krysta Henry and Jacquetta O’Dell
What: Medieval inspired looks made of Wood, hinges, metal work, and leather straping. Rock in roll, sexy, and daring, for sure.
Wear: Patchwork leather skirts and vests, a metal worked bra, a key fringed crop top and even a wood and hinged bustier shape.
Final thought: Favorite and most day to day wearable piece? The Wood pieced and hinged oversized necklace. (sign me up!)
From romantic chiffon rosettes to soft structured separates to a very cool and contrasting Woodwork, leather work and even a Key fringed crop top what a fun way to get our fashion juices flowing. From your Editor-in-Chic...I’ll see you on the runways!
