Local retailer The Fabric Lab presented Prototype: Fresh Designers Runway Show Monday night at the Denver Public Library. The show featured looks from local designers Fallene Wells, James Silvrants, Tricia Hoke and Lynne Bruning.
The show exceeded my expectations and proved that there is a vein of true creative talent right here in little ol' Denver.
The standout was Lynne Bruning, who combined sophisticated silhouettes and good craftmanship with a whimsical riot of woven color. Most of the fabrics are handmade, and nearly every look had at least one element that glowed in the dark - which sounds awful but wasn't. The collection was equal parts art and fashion..jpg)
Tricia Hoke's avant garde collection of jersey dresses incorporated metal hoops which allowed the pieces to be worn in different ways. Pull it up for a collar, down for a hemline. The idea of convertible clothes even extended to a wedding dress made out of other wedding dresses. Her use of draping and color made it a sophisticated, modern collection.
Fallene Wells offered up classic styling in a black and white collection. The pieces are flirty and sexy with a classy sensibility, and the classic lines flatter many body types. Modern, fresh and feminine.
James Silvrants chanelled old Hollywood with full length dresses and classic silhouettes. One dress featured a detachable element that could be worn as a train or a wrap.
Other highlights: Fabulous, fabulous hair by The Parlour. Proceeds went to funding cultural programs at the Library.
All designers' clothes are available at The Fabric Lab.
