Weekend preview: Eagles look to stay perfect in Patriot League

American University women's basketball team (14-6, 6-0) will finish the first half of its Patriot League regular season Saturday. A win over Lafayette (8-13, 2-4) Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bender Arena will put the Eagles 7-0.

Jen Dumiak scored 16 points off the bench and Alexis Dobbs and Lisa Strack each had 11 as the Eagles improved to 6-0 in the PL with a 71-45 rout of Bucknell Wednesday.

Three Bucknell players hit double figures. Lindsay Horbatuck posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Rachel Voss poured in 11 points, while Westfield High-grad Shelby Romine added 10.

AU’s defense forced 33 Bucknell turnovers, recorded a season-high 18 steals, and outscored the Bison, 38-8, in points off turnovers. Additionally, the Eagle’s bench out-scored Bucknell 35-8.

Navy will close out the first half of the league season Saturday at Bucknell (2-19, 0-6).

The Middies (10-10, 3-3), lost a 16-point halftime lead to Lehigh Wednesday and fell 50-46 in Annapolis. The Mountain Hawks went on a 13-0 run with about 7:30 left to play. Navy never recovered.

Emily Gratch and Kelly Peterson led Lehigh with 12 points each. The Mountain Hawks improved to 12-8, 5-1.

Audrey Bauer and Alix Membreno paced Navy (10-10, 3-3) with nine points apiece, while Bauer had a game-high 11 caroms and Membreno collected eight.
