Sundhage looking at players for US Women's Team
US Women’s National Team head coachPia Sunghage was scouting at the Sky Blue FC/FC Gold Pride match on Saturday. She took a few moments from the game to discuss the future of the women’s national team. “I’ll call them up. Whoever is on top of their game regardless if they played on the national team before,” stated Sundhage who still hasn’t decided the team’s formation. The US women played a 4-4-2 during the Olympics, but any future lineups will depend on player personnel. Sundhage states she is looking at any player, especially defenders, who are consistent to call up for the next training camp.
Whether former US national team player Tiffeny Milbrett will have another chance will be dependent on her performance in the new league. “It is not good enough for 30 minutes here and there. It has to be 90 minutes and it has to be consistent,” stated Sundhage. Milbrett played on the Women's National Team from 1995-2005 and currently plays for the FC Gold Pride. But whether a former staple of the national team or a current unknown, any American player on the pitch in the WPS might be suiting up in red, white, and blue in the future.
The United States will continue play on May 20 when they face Japan in a friendly at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
