According to Life&Style magazine, Halle Berry and boyfriend Gabriel Aubry are expecting baby number two. The couple are the parents of toddler Nahla Ariela.
Berry again utilized IVF (in vitro fertilization) to assist in her conception. At the age of 43, Berry has had numerous failed pregnancy attempts.
Many women desire to become mothers post age 35 when doctors say pregnancy risks increase.
According to WebMD:
As women reach their thirties, they experience a decline in fertility. Furthermore, complications during pregnancy are more common when women reach age 35. Age-related decline in fertility may be due, in part, to the following:
- A decrease in the number and health of the eggs to be ovulated.
- Changes in the hormones resulting in altered ovulation.
- Fewer number of eggs.
- A decrease in sperm counts.
- A decrease in the frequency of intercourse.
- The presence of other medical and gynecologic conditions, such as endometriosis, which may interfere with conception.
So why do women continue to risk health and the health of their unborn child by becoming pregnant after age 35? As with many women, Halle Berry spent her twenties building her career. She also struggled in abusive and disappointing relationships into her thirties. Now that she is in a productive relationship and in a stable position, she decided to become a mother.
