Heroes and monsters. The women behind Jaycee Lee Dugard's capture and abduction.

HEROES

You can’t beat a woman’s intuition, especially when followed with action.  Hats off to UC Berkeley Special Events Police Officer Lisa Campbell who, upon a cursory meeting with Phillip Garrido accompanied by his daughters Angel and Starlet, expressed concern to her Captain and then to fellow officer Ally Jacobs.  Another hats off to Officer Ally Jacobs who offered to do the background check on Phillip Garrido that ultimately led to his arrest.  I saw these ladies on CNN’s the Larry King Show and was filled with pride to see women in uniform behind the arrest of Phillip and his wife Nancy Garrido, a couple who met while serving time.

You can get the firsthand account of the sequence of events leading to Phillip and Nancy Garrido's arrest by watching the press conference below with officers Lisa Campbell and Ally Jacobs.

MONSTERS

Much of the media focus has been on Phillip Garrido.  Lest we forget that his wife Nancy Garrido has been arrested on the same charges.

Born in Texas in 1955, Nancy Garrido was visiting an uncle in Fort Leavenworth prison in Kansas when she met Garrido, who was serving time for his 1977 offenses. They communicated through letters and were thought to have been married in prison in the mid-1980s. (source: Telegraph)

The notion of a woman as a sex offender does not sound natural to many of us, but there are women sex offenders out there.  While it is unclear at this point if Nancy is guilty of any sexually related crime, she is being charged with the same initial 29 counts as Phillip Garrido.  Also, Nancy Garrido matches the description of the woman who pulled Jaycee Lee Dugard into the car.  Aiding and abetting is a crime also punishable by law.
