Amy Weber is a cover model, actress, singer, author, wife, and mother whose spent much of her childhood in the midwest (Mapleton, IL), although she’s now living in Los Angeles. As she’ll tell you, “People in the midwest are a little bit different. We’re just hard working people. Not to say that people in southern California aren’t hard working, but...unless you’re doing theater, you just don’t get that instant gratification.”
Just last month, Amy sported a rock solid body on the cover of "Maxim" Germany’s January 2010 issue less than a year after giving birth to twins. When I asked how she was able to get herself back into such great shape, Amy explained, “I put a lot of pressure on myself, but I also have what I call an X-factor. I knew that Maxim shoot was coming up. Not every housewife in Iowa or Ohio has an X-factor. You give yourself that X-factor, like I have 6 months and then I’m going to buy a new bathing suit.”
Yet behind her gorgeous exterior and extensive list of achievements, Amy has also endured several hardships. Growing up, her father was physically abusive towards her. She shared, “It was horrible physical abuse, and my mother was an enabler...If it wasn’t for my sister I think I would be completely nuts because they pretend like nothing ever happened, but I remember it and my sister remembers it.” The abuse left lasting emotional and psychological scars, “It kind of messes with you mentally and never having the support, you overcompensate in a lot of ways, so I became this perfect little kid who could never do anything wrong. That really carried on into my adult life, and you can’t live like that. If you’re wound that tightly and you’re trying to do everything so perfectly so you don’t p*ss somebody off because you don’t want to get hit, it just really messes you up. It took me a really long time to say, ‘OK, I’m enough.’ I don’t have to be doing 300 things at once.”
Her abusive past led Amy to sever her relationship with her parents who have not seen their new grandchildren. When I asked how she felt about making that decision, Amy replied, “It’s not the right choice for everyone, but it managed to be the right choice for me. I’m a very spiritual person, and I did pray a lot about it, and every answer I kept getting was, ‘Enough is enough,’ and that was it. That’s all I needed to have a clear heart. I don’t wish them any ill will or anything bad. I just know that I can’t have such unhealthy people in my life that don’t take responsibility for their actions.”
Several years ago, Amy was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy as well as several surgeries. “I have cervical cancer. I’m what they call a DES (diethylstilbestrol) baby...I have been cancer free for 7 years now...I had it the first time when I was 19 and then it came back a few years later after I went through treatment...My mom had slipped and fallen, and this drug [DES] was supposed to prevent miscarriages because she was bleeding...It kind of messed up my DNA so my cells are never normal. Any time I go in for my female check up, I’m never going to have a normal [pap smear].”
When Amy and her husband David decided they wanted to conceive, they had a lot of difficulty as a result of her needing chemotherapy and surgeries for cervical cancer. Now, she’s in the process of writing a book about her experience to share with others. “I lost twins at 14 weeks, and I had to have an D&C (dilation and curettage) on my birthday.”
Thanks to their perseverance and a specialist willing to experiment with HGH (human growth hormone), the couple now has twins- a girl named Madison Grace and a son named Levi that were born on May 28, 2009. They were born prematurely, “My water broke at 27 weeks, and I was in the high risk department on bed rest for 3 weeks with my baby girl’s water broken,” Amy described. Now, nearly a year later, Madison Grace and Levi are doing well.
Be on the look out for much more coming from Amy. Check out her website www.amyweber.net and her page on IMDB. Also, Amy is the host on an upcoming NBC reality TV series called “Deeds.” Amy explains, “It’s a hidden camera show that puts people to the test to see when given a situation to help a fellow man whether they’ll do it or not.” I read about the show and the controversy about having Michael Lohan as the director (read more on hollyscoop.com). When I asked Amy if she had to interact with Michael, she said, “I don’t. He’s really behind the scenes and I’m not sure whether he’s going to be that much a part of the show moving forward.”
