Bikini season is just around the corner and its that time of year when women start to think about getting in shape again to “bare (nearly) all”; if you have a figure like a Victoria's Secret supermodel, its probably no big deal but for many women the prospect can be daunting. However, there are a few things that the “average” woman can do to look spectacular on the beach this summer too!

Choose an exercise workout

Probably the first thing a fitness trainer will tell you is that an exercise workout is vital to achieving a bikini body like a supermodel; although this is true, if an intensive cardio-workout at the gym is not “your thing”, try gentler forms of exercise like walking and yoga to begin with. Yoga is actually practiced by many supermodels too and gives a more “intense” workout than meets the eye; it is also good for reducing stress levels as it is relaxing for the mind.

Also try alternative exercise through swimming, hiking and running.

Choose a manageable diet

The saying “you are what you eat” is true; if you eat a diet which consists of entirely junk food, your body will reflect this. However, a balanced diet of vegetables, fruit, meat, fish and the occasional “treat” will make you feel healthier and help you to lose weight, if managed correctly. Eat for your height, body type and age. A woman's metabolism slows down after the age of 25, so it becomes harder for most women to maintain the figure they had at age 18!

What Victoria's Secret models say on how to achieve a bikini body

Victoria's Secret models have their tips on how to maintain a bikini body:

Doutzen Kroes: “ It's not really a secret, it's working out, getting sleep and eating healthy, its a combination of those three things.”

Allesandra Ambrosio: “I don't have time to workout but I like surfing, roller blading and I'm trying to get into yoga to take care of my body....I love chocolate, I love steak, I love all that good Brazilian food, so I try to moderate.”

Marisa Miller: “More than anything I think it's boxing. It's good because you use your whole body and you work your legs all the way up.”

There are few women who can maintain a bikini body like a Victoria's secret model indefinitely, unless blessed with the “right” genes, but exercise, diet and relaxation are factors which can be moderated in most women's lives. Above all, be happy and comfortable with who you are and have the confidence to wear that bikini on the beach this summer!
