The next big diet craze is here. The latest diet is from the editor-in-chief of Prevention magazine. Liz Vaccariello is the author of the 400 Calorie Fix and the next diet craze. This "fix" is a spinoff of her best seller, Flat Belly Diet!
Recently, the Rachael Ray Show featured Vaccariello who explainind her new book, 400 Calorie Fix. Now it's not 400 calories a day, it's 400 calories a meal, 4 times a day, equalling 1600 calories a day. Is that enough?
The average American tends to eat around 1,000 calories extra each day. So in reality, this diet would work for most people. The next question: is it healthy? While 1,600 calories a day is good, it does not always come from healthy food. The book prides itself on allowing people to eat their favorite foods, including fast food and ice cream as long as it is still, 400 calories a meal.
Some people need more than 1,600 calories a day because of height, weight, age and activity levels. The more active a person is the more calories he or she needs in a day. This diet would not keep a highly active person healthy.
So, do not fully believe in the craze. While the diet teaches about portion control and nutrional facts, it does not always go the healthy route. To lose weight, the body needs to burn more calories than it takes in, but they must be good calories. These would include lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, nuts and whole wheats.
While the 400 Calorie Fix may be the newest diet craze, it does not mean that it should be followed. To be happy, healthy and at the right weight; eat clean, watch portions, exercise daily and enjoy life.
