GET FIT & HEALTHY WEEKLY CHALLENGE #6
Keep a daily food journal, recording EVERYTHING you eat
Looking for a tool to drop those pounds, one that will finally make you step up to the plate and take responsibility for what you are eating? A food journal can do just that. The reality is that most people are not mindful eaters - they eat to eat - not necessarily when they are hungry or the right food for their bodies. The challenge for week 6 of the get fit & healthy weekly challenge is to keep a food journal of EVERYTHING you consume for the next week, this means you are holding yourself accountable for anything that hits your mouth!
Why use a journal?
How many times have you thought to yourself "I'll have just a little bite of that or a handful of those," and didn't think it would effect your weight? News flash, those little bites add right onto your daily calorie count and as a result add right onto your waistline Unless you are willing to spend an extra 30-minutes at the gym for every extra bite you take, your best tool is to keep a food journal . Recording every bite that you take throughout the day will show you exactly what is hindering those weight loss goals. Our bodies need fuel (food) to get through the day and if you are over-fueling or giving it bad fuel, it will store those extra/bad calories. A food journal will put this all in perspective by effectively preventing you from over-eating, binge-eating or eating when you are not hungry. In a recent study individuals who kept a food journal lost twice as much weight as those who did not.
Not only does the food journal bring your daily diet to your attention, it creates mindful eating. Mindful eating involves consciously being aware of what your eating - seems simple right?! Well a majority of people out there don't do it - they eat simply to eat which results in weight gain! A journal will keep you in check and forces you to write down what you are eating, making you think about it, mindfully.
Create your own!
Whether you prefer to do it in your own personal journal or want to go for an online approach, this challenge is one that will bring a whole new meaning to your fit and healthy plan. Online versions are thorough and take some of the work out of it, getting down to how many calories you are consuming - breaking it as far down as the daily percentage of proteins, carbohydrates, nutrients etc. - and how many calories you are burning.
