In this fun follow up to "The Fidelity Files," Jessica Brody explores whether a former "fidelity inspector" can find lasting love despite making a career of dealing with cheaters.
Jennifer Hunter has an uncanny ability to tell when men are cheating, and used this skill to start out as an undercover fidelity inspector, helping women find out whether their significant others were faithful. Once her boyfriend, Jamie, found out, Jen decided to start her own agency and hire a team of full-time inspectors to do the dirty work. Instead of hanging out in hotel rooms and bars trying to catch cheaters in action, Jen worked on the business side. This way she could still help women (and sometimes men, too) and keep a stable relationship. Everything was fabulous, and then Jamie unexpectedly proposes.
Understandingly, Jen is slightly cynical when it comes to marriage and commitment after what she's seen in her business, but she still says yes. Tearing herself away from the job, however, is harder than Jen thought. She hates being behind the scenes sometimes and misses the thrill of the chase, but Jamie doesn't want her being put in compromising (and sometimes dangerous) situations with strange men. Once again, Jen is forced to choose between love and her career, and the outcome might surprise you.
In a world where divorce and infidelity is so common, Brody touches on a timely topic. Although the tone of the novel is light, one can't help but feel sad for the many women who come to Jen seeking answers (and be disgusted while getting a peek into the outcomes of the inspectors' various assignments).
The ending is left slightly open, undoubtedly leaving fans looking for more from Brody in this humorous and heartfelt series.
