Minter Krotzer, teaches Life Stories, a creative writing class with a focus on materials gleaned through ones own experience, is about to launch a new creative writing class called Write In, in the fall (in addition to Life Stories). These classes will use various writing prompts for in-class writing projects. She will also be teaching special one day writing classes with a theme such as: food writing, nature writing, health, travel etc. Minter’s classes are held at the Big Blue Marble Bookstore at 551 Carpenter Lane in Mt. Airy.
Minter has a BA from Bennington College and an MFA from the New School in New York. She received Writing Fellowships at New School, Bennington College, The Squaw Valley Writer’s Conference, and a residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her focus is short non-fiction and long fiction.
She had been published in Before & After Stories from New York, (WW Norton), God Stories (Random House), the Saint Ann’s Review, Night Train, Upstreet, The Arkansas Review and Louisiana in Words (Pelican Press).
Minter has also had her stories A Tree Dies in Brooklyn and Trash Like White Elephants published at www.mrbellersneighborhood.com and Growing Up Girl at www.shinygun.com.
I asked Minter to share some of her experiences and philosophies about writing:
Q. When did you first begin to write? A. “In fourth grade I wrote a play about Helen Keller which started the still annual fourth grade play at my elementary school in New Orleans, where I grew up.”
Q. Do you have any General philosophies about writing? A. "Keep it simple, slow down the process, listen for the story."
Q. Do you have a general philosophy about life? A. “I believe everything happens for a reason and that each of us is here for a purpose.”
Q. Do you have a closing statement you would like to share? A. "Writing is a Courageous act.”
