
Staff Picks at Big Blue Marble
In this electronic age of communication over the Internet, it’s nice to find a place where the face-to-face book club is alive and well. The Big Blue Marble Bookstore, at 551 Carpenter Lane in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia is an independently owned establishment and host to several book clubs that meet monthly in the store’s Community Room.
Join the Women of the World Book Club on the last Tuesday of every month at 7:15 p.m. . This club focuses on international and multicultural women writers. The club is open to everyone. June’s book was Kinky Gazpacho by Lori Tharps.
Come out and join the Big Blue YA Book Discussion Group every fourth Thursday at 7:30 p.m.. Young adult genre books are explored, but readers of all ages are welcome. June’s book was The Wild Girls by Pat Murphy. July’s book will be Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli.
Poetry Aloud and Alive is the theme every fourth Friday at 7:15 p.m. These sessions have a featured reader and follow with an open reading. Everyone is encouraged to attend and share their work.
Thursdays at 11 a.m. bring your toddlers out for the Big Blue Marble Story Time for Toddlers! Come out and play, read or just hang out.
