Getting to work on time

Don't be late!

You have used every excuse in the book... the car would not start, your kid was sick, you over slept, you could not find the keys.  It all boils down to one thing.  You are always late!

No boss likes a late employee.  And most employees don't like being late.  If you think being late is not a big deal and think your boss is lucky to have you no matter what time you walk through the door then you might have a bigger problem than you think.  And you may soon find yourself unemployed.

If you hate being late and would like to change that habit there is hope for you.  First, you have to realize that life is not causing you to be late.  You are just using life's mishaps as an excuse.  If your car is not reliable then get another car.  Or take the bus.  Or walk to work.  Or get a ride.  If you are constantly looking for your keys then stop losing your keys.  If your kid is sick often then get a back up plan for when your kid is sick.  Are you getting the point?

In other words, if you choose to work outside the home then you have to make getting to work on time a priority.  Your family might think you are special but your boss... not so much.  Your boss sees you as an employee.  And that's exactly what you are!  Act like one.  A good one.

Turn your old habit of being late into a new habit of always being early.  You should be in the door and ready to work at least 15 minutes before your shift starts.  Show your boss that you mean business and that you have great respect for the paycheck you get.  You will get great respect in return.

It dries me nuts when people are late! I tend to be right on time or usually a little early. Being late continuously shows a lack of respect for other people. Great job on this article. I posted it on Digg. Everyone should read it.
