Woman owned home based businesses

Three local women have all ended up with the same title, entrepreneur. Susan Morton never had any idea that she would start her own business. However, a decade ago, Morton left the banking industry and turned her love of crafts into a full time business. She is affiliated with Stampin' Up a Utah based company. She teaches and sells products from her home.
It is difficult to decide on what type of home based business to start.

There are a mass of sales ads and you have to cut through them and find one that is legitimate and one that works. According to the Better Business Bureau you should ask questions before handing over money for a work at home opportunity. For example, Stampin' Up requires a $199.00 start up fee. This includes products and materials. Legitimate programs will let you know in writing what is involved.

Teresa Hagedorn says, “You can turn it to whatever you want it to be, if you believe that you can.” Teresa throws parties and recruits fellow sales people for Pampered Chef cooking products. It has allowed her to stay at home during the day with her kids. She said, “I thought once they were in school, I'll go back to working full time. However, she has discovered that it is too nice to be self employed. Advantages of self employment are flexibility of hours and low overhead. However, being self employed does not earn a regular hourly wage. In most cases compensation is based on meeting sales goals. It takes self motivation to be self employed.

Joyce Mallwitz says, “Our team has doubled its sales in November, and tripled sales in October.” More and more people are starting to eat in due to the economy and that is helping them. Mallwitz is a part time business woman with Homemade Gourmet out of Texas. They arrange parties where easy to make food is the star. The secret to her success is, “Get something that is close to your heart”. For now these three women have the key ingredient that is paying off.

The Better Business Bureau also advises those interested in a home based business to check the company out, not just where the company is based, but also where you live. If you are looking to be self employed, you might also want to check out selling Avon.

    Hi

I've just started my own business as a Virtual Assistant and couldn't have done it without the help of VAnetworking.com. Although I purchased their Virtual Assistant Startup System to help me from start to finish, they also have a fantastic free networking forum which anyone can join and gain the expert advice of thousands of experienced Virtual Assistants. I would highly recommend that anyone considering starting their own Virtual Assistant business, visit their website for all the information they'll ever need on becomming a VA.

    Good luck

    Gillian
