Traditions and smells to pop up memories

Traditions are part of our culture, religion and history and many are passed down from generation to generation. The word tradition actually comes from the Latin traditionem, acc. of traditio which means "handing over, passing on".

Old family or regional traditions let us relate to our ancestors and roots. New traditions are often created by new families and couples or during more challenging times to reconnect or to cope with new or difficult situations. Family practices and customs provide a feeling of stability and especially children look forward to those exciting days, filled with activities and crafts, special foods and moments of closeness between family members. The memories of these hours will accompany us throughout our lives and will be a source of joy, something to remember during happy times and something to hold on to during sad times.

The weeks around the holidays are not only rich in traditions around the world, influenced by geographical regions, religious beliefs and family history, but also rich in smells, tastes, sights and sounds. It’s a busy time for the senses and the smells our noses pick up during these days will be stored as information in our brains for a lifetime. The connection between smell and memory lets us go back in time to specific events, places or people we identify we certain smells.

The smell of popping popcorn represents for most people coziness, warmth and celebrating, relaxing and good times. In early American homes popcorn garlands and candy cane, all white without red stripes at the time, were part of the Christmas tree decoration. Today popcorn is America’s favorite snack, wholesome and healthy and popcorn gifts have become popular and tasty presents. Popcorn kernels come in winter and holiday themed tins and already popped popcorn is available in a variety of gourmet flavors and packaging.

The Creative Idea Shop offers a beautiful series of holiday and Christmas greeting cards containing microwave popcorn for popping, which is part of the company’s unique Popcorn Greetings® line. These themed and fun greetings feature room for personalization and can be mailed in optional envelopes. Popcorn Greeting Cards™ unfold into a 3-sided stand-up card and businesses appreciate Popcorn Greeting Cards™ customized as memorable customer appreciation or B2B gift for the holidays. Original Popcorn Greetings® in soft paper wrappers make unique stocking stuffers and add a tasteful touch to any holiday or Christmas gift basket creation. Busy fundraisers offer this practical and fun item to their supporters to pop up cash during their fundraising campaigns.

The tradition of popping popcorn during the holidays and the smell that comes with it continues to please our noses, young and old alike and will be a trigger for good memories for generations to come.
