Today, Los Angeles MC Raven Sorvino released her new video “Reign Coat”. The video initiates with the Richmond, Texas native appearing from shadows resembling the late Aaliyah, whom she was inspired by to create her latest release, Inspired.
The MC who is also known as the first lady of Language Artz strolls in the dark wearing red lingerie and matching lipstick. Although, Sorvino’s sex appeal is apparent, her delivery is crucial. The Dae One produced beat that she rhymes over almost makes you feel as if you’re watching a horror movie. Lines like, “Murdering these rappers. They old, I made the crimes list...Hannibal I’m eating your brains. My f*cking mind’s sick,” validates the feeling. She’s not to be confused with a handful of female rappers who are pegged as simply sex kittens.
During the second half of the video Sorvino switches up her attire to a black and white plaid shirt, as if she’s paying homage to the LA Hip Hop veterans that came before her. Standing underneath an umbrella, held by a masked male she spits, “I’m old school. Jookin’, boom box and Kangols.”
Prior to the video’s ending Sorvino’s recent sidekick, a Ralph Lauren teddy bear makes an appearance. Her Language Artz colleagues follow suit. While walking down a dark street accompanied by an American Pit Bull Terrier the Lauryn Hill, Lady Bug Mecca, and Lil Kim influenced MC boasts about her lyrical skills and demeans weak rappers. She then disappears leaving the masked male to stand alone cocking a shotgun, which served as the umbrella's handle.
Sorvino is currently working with LA production team The Formula and recording her debut album, Paper Girl. The album is expected to be released on December 6, 2011 by HipNott Records.
