Yoga can help your money habits: the Root chakra (Part two-the budget)

In yoga, the Root chakra is the energy center which governs survival and security – and helps balance your cheque book! When the Root chakra is brought into balance through meditation and practice of the Mountain and the Yoga Squat postures, it becomes easier to promote both financial awareness and the small daily habits that bring the bank balance under control.

Would you put on a blindfold before skiing down Mount Tremblant? Probably not. Yet that is what people do every day when it comes to their money. And they have a good reason – examining how much is earned versus how much is spent usually shows a need for balance in their finance debt. Balance means facing up to the realities of the financial picture and allocating money resources accordingly. This is where the dreaded budget comes in.

A budget tracks money in and money out. If more money regularly goes out than comes in, you are in trouble. The kind of trouble that, if nothing is done, eventually takes away your home, your vehicle, and your ability to get credit. Money woes are tough on even the best relationships and different approaches to saving and spending are one of the major sources of arguments between spouses.

For the best chance of success, a budget should take your income, your expenses, and your dreams under consideration.

It’s true that most people find the first month of budgeting tough – but if you stick it out, the rewards are huge. On a daily basis, the nagging fear that arises when you think about your finances (and debts) vanishes. Goals that seemed a mere fantasy become achievable when they are factored into and become part of your budget – travel, a beautiful home, ridiculously expensive footwear, education, charitable donations, and much more.

Yoga can help you focus each day, building the physical, mental, and spiritual health that allows you to face the challenges presented by building and sticking to a budget. There are several sample budgets available for downloading, but it is important to take the time to create one that fits your individual style and reality

Part 3 will show how to personalize a budget template so that it that fits your exact needs and lifestyle.
