You can always count on Seth Godin to get you out of a rut!
Godin is a renowned marketing guru and "agent of change" and I'm a huge fan of his blog (and I appreciate that he updates it every day!). This week he posted an especially creative post for those of us that might be stuck in a rut. The post called "Change Everything" listed 45 ways to do just that!
I was intrigued by the bevy of ideas and ran it by a few noted local businesswomen to get their take on the ideas - as well as their favorites from the list. Here you go!
#8 Host a conference for your competitors - Lori Richardson, Score More Sales
"Sales guru superstar Jill Konrath did this - it was a pre-day at her big Sales Shebang event - a room full of women sales effectiveness trainers, speakers, and coaches. What happened? I organized an event called Total Networking, which had all of the top women’s business organizations in the Pacific Northwest invited - what happened? More collaboration than you could imagine… people are still talking about this first-ever event."
#11 Start a blog - Nancy Juetten, Main Street Media Savvy
"And I would add "passionately contribute killer content regularly" to your blog. Now that decision makers are searching the internet to find what they need, your quality posts will make it that much easier for the right people to show up to benefit from what you offer. Great resources to learn more about blogging are www.problogger.net and www.blogmastermind.com."
#20 Move to Thailand, #39 Give your most valuable posessions to a stranger - Betsy Talbot, Married With Luggage
"I am in the process of uprooting my entire life - business, home and social life - to travel around the world with my husband for a year. We have saved half the money and are gradually getting rid of all our possessions, including our house. It's a little bit scary and a whole lot exciting, and I know life will never be the same again. Yes, I think you can change everything with just one or two key decisions."
#21 Listen to audio books in your car instead of the radio - Debbie Rosemont, Simply Placed
"To me, this is a great way to engage in personal or professional development while short on time, and the only upside to bad traffic!"
#29 Open your offices only four hours a day - Connie Hinton, BNI Northwest
"For a time, I felt like a slave to my business since I perceived I had to be on call all my waking hours answering the phone and emails. I found that when I set limited hours to be available, my customers began to value me more. I liken it to being available to someone you are dating all the time. They start to take you for granted."
37. Do your work somewhere else.
Lori Richardson brought this story to my attention about an architect who set up a booth at the farmer's market, giving design consults for 5 cents - it created unbelieveable results and is a must read!
So, what are you doing to get out of your rut? I'd love to read your comments below, or feel free to send them via email for possible inclusion in my followup to this column...I know there are more great stories and tips out there just waiting to be shared!

I'm a big fan of shaking things up. Thanks for using my comments in your story, Karen.
I'm doing free teleclasses. Now that might not sound like change-- but I don't do FREE!
Something I haven't done in many years. Helping lots of newer business owners as well as my usual ideal clients.
Karen - here is a quick update on John Morefield, whom I finally MET last night at the big Biznik "SHINE" event - his idea of "Architecture 5 Cents" was so wildy successful that he's begun franchising the idea to OTHER architects around North America - take a look at www.architecture5cents.com - pretty amazing. I have also heard how other architects who are not big picture thinkers have put John and his idea down - I think they have really missed the point. Way to go, John. Thanks for the mention, Karen!
