Citizens in Atlanta, as well as all across the nation, are alarmed and amazed that two people could get past the Secret Service and actually go through the receiving line and shake hands with President Obama.
Main problem – they were not on the guest list. The security at the Atlanta Airport is more secure, it would seem, than the White House. Or is it? Is anything secure if the White House is not? Sure the Secret Service is embarrassed – they would have been a lot more embraced if a catastrophe had happened.
Michaele and Tareq Salahi, should be given the award of the year for sheer guts before they are hauled off to jail. While the White House prompted a “full review” of the lapse in security, it will be a “rear view.” It seems the Secret Service is like a lot of people today, a day late and a dollar short. It remains to be seen if they will be charged with at least trespassing. It also remains to be seen if heads will roll in the Secret Service. Instead of prosecuting them, perhaps the CIA will give the couple jobs as operatives. They proved their mettle.
As parents, how can we even feel safe about our children in open schools when people were able to get not only get into the White House with no problem; but are treated like old time friends in the receiving line?
Does this give rise to fear that if this could happen at the White House, it could happen anywhere?
What if they had been a couple not intending to harm the President, but his guest in whose honor the State Dinner was given, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India; or any other guest.
If this could happen right here in America; how can we expect the President to be safe on his many world tours; if all you have to do is show a little glitz and glamour? Will dignitaries from other countries feel safe while visiting America? There were German infiltrators here in America during World War II; and you should not be shocked to know that with such an open country – we can be assured they are here now from our enemy countries.
In the White House photo above, it shows President Obama greeting the couple. Even though they went through several check points including a magnetometer – they could have, with evil intent, been carrying chemical substances that could have harmed the President; like anthrax or some other deadly powder. The Secret Service declined to comment whether or not anyone coming to the party was screened for biological weapons.
The Secret Service Director, Mark Sullivan, said they made a mistake – that is the “duh” of the month, huh? While publicly the White House said they supported the Secret Service, they demanded answers. Perhaps the president should have the Secret Service vetted – unlike others he has around him – close to him everyday – by appointment and not Senate approval.
The White House has insisted that the Salahis were not invited to Tuesday's dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, despite contrary claims by the couple and their lawyer.
Some guests at Tuesday's dinner were interviewed in regard to the incident; but declined to elaborate because of potential criminal charges filed against the couple who are reported to be wine and polo enthusiast from Virginia.
Ms. Salahi seemed to enjoy her moment in the sun; or her fifteen minutes of fame wearing an Indian designer dress to a State Dinner, having her picture made with Obama, Biden, and others. It was also rumored that the pair was jockeying for a reality show of some kind. Being that the White House and Secret Service is so embarrassed we may never fully know their intentions.
Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., has called for a congressional hearing into the "shocking breach of security" at the White House dinner. Will they get off with a slap on the wrist because of their wealth; or will they be made an example so that others will know they just can’t do that and get away with it? Of will this just fade into the sunset?
