Skates and the winner
After a hard-fought game the Wolves lost after 60 minutes of regular play, five minutes of overtime, and seven rounds in a shootout. It all came down to one last shot that seemed so easy a feat, though it was anything but. The entire game was back-and-forth goal scoring with each team never being down too long before being able to tie things up again.
With time nearing to the end of the first period, an Ice Hogs player took a shot that not only missed the net, but slammed into the glass so hard it shattered instantly sending glass into the crowd and all over the ice. The game had to be stopped and go to an early intermission in order for the glass to be fixed with a little over a minute of play left on the board.
However, the intermission was a huge treat for the lucky fans who made it into the Wolves "Howlin' Halloween" contest. The contestants were dressed as Eeyore, a pilot, Jigsaw from the movie Saw, a headless man, a ninja, the Joker, a fireman, a giraffe, and a werewolf. The two finalists, the pilot and werewolf, were chosen by applause from the audience. The crowd was then asked again to applaud for their favorite of the two finalists, which wound up being the werewolf! Congratulations to all of the finalists and the grand prize winner who will trick-or-treat with Skates on Friday night for two hours! Click here to see the pictures from the contest!
After finishing the intermissions activitie, the remaining time from the first period was finished before beginning the second. Unfortunately, the Wolves winning streak of four games came to an end after killing all four power plays against them and an overall very hard-fought game.
On a much happier note, however, Wednesday night will offer another contribution to the championship team from last year. The players and staff will all be getting their championship rings, which I am anxious to see and hopefully get a picture or two of.
Also, the team will be practicing with, signing, and auctioning off pink hockey sticks in support of breast cancer awareness. A silent auction will be held for anyone interested in taking home one of the special sticks and helping out a great cause. Winners will be announced throughout the game! Everyone is also encouraged to wear pink in support of the team's efforts! "Stick it to breast cancer" t-shirts will also be available for a donation of only $20 to the charity. Men, don't be shy, if a hockey player can pull it off so can you!
