According to AP sources, four powerful earthquakes have shaken the state of Baja California Norte in Mexico. The strongest was reported to be about 6.9 on the Richter scale, according to USGS reports. There are as yet no reports of damage or casualties.
The epicenter was located about 330 miles southeast of Tijuana somewhere in the Sea of Cortez, and buildings as far north as Phoenix AZ felt the sway. There is no danger of Tsunami from these earthquakes.
These quakes come just as excited wine lovers in the city and environs of Ensenada BC are gearing up for the popular annual 3-week bacchanale, Fiestas de la Vendimia. We await news of this new twist to the festival, as reports come through.
The central Sea of Cortez, where the epicenter is located, is a marine area of tremendous sensitivity and diversity, and is a haven for researchers and recreational divers alike. My heart and thoughts go out to anyone affected by this quake.

Wow! It affected Phoenix? That's crazy. When did this happen? I live in Tucson, AZ only 2 hrs from Phoenix and I don't recall feeling anything here.

Sorry, duh. You live here too.
The first quake happened at about 11am. The second was the strongest, a few minutes later.
I survived the Loma Prieta earthquake in Central California, about 20 miles from the epicenter. Earthquakes can be so devastating. People were still patching their lives back together 2 years later, and many people picked up and left the Santa Cruz area and never came back.
Got something to say?
