A large sign helps wine travelers find the entrance to Castello di Bossi located in the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Parking is adjacent to a large stone building in the shape of a square with a center courtyard. The present building dates to the 15th century, although parts of the structure date back to 1099. Vines have been planted on the property since the 15th century.
The 1500-acre property has 9000 olive trees and over 300 acres of grapes. Sangiovese is the primary grape planted and there are smaller plantings of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The barrel room is lined with oak tanks. These oak tanks age 97 hectoliters (25,625 gallons) of wine. A wooden staircase leads to a large tasting room that can accommodate groups for wine tastings. Wine enthusiasts taste wine in fine stemware by Bormioli that include different vintages of Chianti Classico and other wines such as Merlot. The tasting room has many winemaking related artifacts and one will want to spend time ambling through the room while tasting the wines.
Castello di Bossi offers a relaxing visit to a beautiful setting in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany.
