Wine travelers should plan to spend the day at Barone Ricasoli and schedule the historical tour of the Castello di Brolio, a wine tasting and a meal at the restaurant. Across from a parking area, the Barone Ricasoli Wine Shop welcomes visitors. The wine shop us to be an olive oil mill. Now it houses the Barone Ricasoli tasting room where visitors can taste wines at a curved wooden tasting counter. There is an interesting display of wines behind the tasting counter. The tasting room is long and visitors can view photographs and artifacts in glass-enclosed cabinets.

During a tour of the winery, visitors will see numerous stainless steel tanks. Barone Ricasoli produces over 150,000 cases of wine. Notice the shape of the tanks. Their unique shape accommodates a plunger designed by the winery for automated punch down. In the cellar, wine is aged in French oak barrels. Above the cellar as a large bottling line.

From the wine shop one can follow their tour guide up a road to the castle for the historical tour. The castle was a fortified village in the 10th century owned by monks. In 1142 the Ricasoli Baron owned the property that has remained in the Ricasoli family ever since. Visit the family chapel built in the 15th century and walk along the walls where the views of the countryside are stunning.

On the way back to the wine shop, stop by the restaurant for a relaxing meal. Enjoy a visit to Barone Ricasoli where one can take the opportunity to taste wines, tour the centuries old castle and enjoy a relaxing meal.
