Every year it gets harder and harder to find a Pinot Noir that is palatable for under $10. I purused the shelves of my local wine purveyor and I managed to find a diamond in the rough.
Owned by the Frei Brothers, Redwook Creek vineyards are located in Modesto, California. However, their Pinot Noir is made in the appellation of Vin de Pays de L'ile de Beaute, also known as Corsica, a Mediterranean island located off the southern tip of France.
Redwood Creek Pinot Noir has a nice black cherry and blackberry flavor with a velvety finish. The wine is medium-bodied and I even detected a hint of strawberry.
It pairs well with hearty beef dishes like Beef Wellington and pot roast. Try it with a zesty pasta or a grilled chicken dish as well.
So for $6.99 a bottle, you can actually serve a decent bottle of French wine to your guests. It will balance out your cellar geographically and your guests will love what they are drinking.
