The results are in for the annual Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association commercial wine competition. Best of Show honors have been bestowed on the Martin Ranch Winery 2007 Syrah from the Lester Family Vineyard that is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains near the town of Corralitos.
This unique competition features a 48 person wine judging panel that consists of both members of the wine trade – people who buy wine for restaurants and retail wine shops and members of the wine press -- and local consumers. Results are tracked by trade and consumer judges as well as how the male and female judges ranked the wines.
High honors awarded for Best of Red and White wines
Hosted by Lionel Le Morvan, celebrated owner and Executive Chef of Ma Maison restaurant in Aptos, the competition included 175 wines from 35 members of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association. In the Best of Red category there was a rare tie between Clos Tita 2006 Gironde, a cabernet blend, and Soquel Vineyards 2007 Cabernet Franc. Best of White was awarded to Beauregard Vineyards 2007 Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains.
Congratulations to all of the winery participants, event planners, volunteers and judges on a successful celebration of our local Santa Cruz Mountains winemaking talent.
