Now that the summer tourists and fall leaf-peepers have departed, Newport returns to Rhode Islanders as a home-state holiday destination. To make the journey over the bridges even sweeter this season, Castle Hill Inn and Resort is slashing their award-winning wine list prices in half for Sunday dinners in their dinning room. Special starts November 15, 2009 and continues every Sunday evening until December 20, 2009.
Every year Wine Spectator magazine recognizes restaurants that have interesting wine lists. Wine selections must appeal to a variety of wine lovers and pair well with the chef’s cuisine. In 2009, Castle Hill received the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. To be eligible for this award, Castle Hill’s list exceeded the basic qualifying requirements of 100 minimum wines that are “thematically matched to the menu in both price and style.” As one of the 816 world-wide restaurants who received the “Best” distinction, Castle Hill has hundreds of wines in their repertoire that have all been specially selected by vintage and region.
Do not miss this rare opportunity to try notable wines from around the world at close to, or in many cases, less than retail price. This deal is also better than digging out a wine from your own cellar and going BYOB, for some of these wines are only restaurant allocated. The impressive list includes wines from renowned producers like Kim Crawford from New Zealand; Casa Lapostolle from Chile; Chateau de Beaucastel from France; Domaine Drouhin from Oregon; Two Hands from Australia; Stag’s Leap from California; Dr. H. Thansich from Germany; and Gaja from Italy. Local vineyards, such as Sakonnet and Westport Rivers, are represented as well.
Castle Hill encourages wine lovers to be daring and try some unusual and interesting wines with dinner. Ask your server which wines pair best with your meal. Consider a food-friendly Gruner Veltliner (white) or sip something aged to perfection like an Amarone (red). With dessert, be bold and try an “Ice Wine” from Canada.
