Pairings will include a Lobster Popover with the 2007 Shafer “Red Shoulder” Chardonnay from Canreors, which Robert Parker calls a “return to . . . brilliance.” With a winery located in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, the evening would not be complete without a great Cabernet Sauvignon on the menu. And of course, the Executive Chef at 22 Bowen’s has paired the 2005 Shafer One Point Five Cabernet with a Kobe rip roast wrapped in a puff pastry with mushroom duxelle, fois gras and bordelaise sauce.

22 Bowen’s

The culinary philosophy of 22 Bowen’s, as well as the other restaurants belonging to the Newport Restaurant Group, is to provide guests with the best dinning experience possible. Therefore, they are focused on being service-oriented and strive to use the freshest and finest ingredients available, which are often locally and organically grown. With their dedication to supporting sustainable growing and harvesting, they are the perfect match for a Shafer Vineyards’ wine tasting.

Shafer Vineyards

To protect the environment and ensure the quality of their wines, Shafer Vineyards practices sustainable agriculture. Keeping their wines free from harsh chemicals and other toxins, they use 100% solar power to generate energy; plant cover crops to control soil erosion and to attract good bugs that prey on bad bugs; add sulfur dust (an acceptable organic material) to prevent mildew on vines; install nesting boxes for winged hunters like hawks to control pests; and recycle pomance (the natural by-product of winemaking) back into the soil. Visit Shafer Vineyards website to see a video on sustainable agriculture.

With good food, good wine, the September 14th event is sure to be a good time.
