With the holidays upon us and in full swing, there's no better time than to start thinkin' 'chamagne,' that is if you haven't already.  There are millions of 'em out there, from the low-end Andre's of the world to the high-end Cristals and Dom Perignons. Practically every wine producing region on the planet puts out a champagne as well.  But few will make the cut of World's Most Expensive.

  • At $275,000. a bottle, Heidsieck 1907 rings in at the top of the list.  200 bottles of the perfectly-preserved bubbly was found at the bottom of the sea, lost for eighty years.  The wine was salvaged off the coast of Finland, where it was on its way to the Russian Imperial family.

  • Perrier Jouet (Pernod Ricard) comes in as next highest at $50,000.  This champagne is sold as a set of twelve bottles.  Marketed as 'luxury items,' to the ultra-rich, the buyers will have to go to Eastern France to pick it up.

  • Cristal Brut, 1990, "Methuseleh" is right up there; coming in at $17,625 a bottle.  This Methuseleh (a six-liter bottle) bears a gold label.  It was sold at auction in New York City to an undisclosed buyer in 2005.

  • Dom Perignon White Gold "Jeroboam" comes in at $40,000. The Jeroboam--a three-liter bottle--also 1990.  The bottle(s) were sold to commemorate the new year. the bottle's pricey price has as much to do with the white gold bottle as the wine inside.

Even if you can't afford these "luxury item" bottles, be sure to pop a cork of something this season!
