Indianapolis, once again, has been highlighted for its ground breaking wines. In 2008 Chateau Thomas Winery introduced the world’s first sugar-free sweet wine called Slender. This wine is for figure conscious people who avoid sugar, or diabetics who can’t have sugar, and is available in Slender White, Slender Rose, and Slender Red. Slender wines have been highlighted all over the world, and have even been included in the gift bags for the celebrities at the 2009 Academy Awards.

Dr. Thomas, owner of Chateau Thomas, studies wine’s health enhancement and how it reduces the risk of heart disease (when enjoyed in moderation). He developed Slender so that those who don’t want, or can’t have, sugar can still enjoy wine. Slender wines are 10% Zerose, which is a sugar-free sweetener that occurs naturally in most fruits. It contains no sugar, no carbohydrates, no fats and has no aftertaste, leaving you with nothing but the warm blend of flavors in the wines (and, as an added bonus, this sweetener doesn’t cause tooth-decay).

Naturally, each wine has its own unique flavors and pairs great with certain foods. The Slender White is made from California white grapes and boasts floral and citrus scents with a sweet finish. The White goes best with fish, cheese, fowl (including fried chicken), and fresh desserts. It is best served chilled to 45-55 degrees.

The Rose is made from a blend of California white and red grapes and has aromas of strawberry and citrus. This is a good sipping wine and pairs great with fish, processed meats, cheeses, and German-style foods. Like the White, the Rose also is best served chilled to 45-55 degrees.

The Red, produced from California red grapes, is flavored with cherries, plum and spice. This wine has more of a mild sweetness at the finish and pairs great with red and grilled meats, and yellow cheeses. This wine is better at room temperature or chilled to around 60 degrees.
