Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) announced Friday that he will be campaigning for Republicans during the reelection season in 2010, despite the obvious fact that he is an Independent candidate who happens to caucus with the Democrats.
Previously, Lieberman postured against the Democratic Party (which he once called home) when he publicly dismissed the Democrat’s public-option health care system, the prize policy of the Obama Administration and prominent Democrats, including fellow Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd.
Lieberman said in a statement to the national press; “I’ve taken this position (on health care reform) because I believe in it…I’m not taking this position for the insurance industry. I’m taking this position because I think it’s best for our economic recovery”, including the nation’s “long-term fiscal soundness”.
Lieberman reiterated his comments by stating that while he supports national health care reform, but he would join the Republican filibuster if the public option were to be included in the legislation.
