Whether you're heading to Flagstaff for the Arizona Cardinals Training Camp, to enjoy the cool summer weather or in the winter for some snow fun... here's a look at five unique budget-friendly accommodations in the area. All offer rooms for two guests for under $100 per night... and can go up from there depending on the size of the room and number of guests. I've personally checked out the rooms at each of these properties...
Downtown:
23 N. Leroux St.
928.779.1919
The Weatherford has 11 rooms ranging from $49-$130 per night. Rates are the same year round but expect to pay more around New Year's Eve when rooms are only available as part of a package deal for the big New Year's Eve Pine Cone Drop celebration. It can get loud in these rooms at night because of the year round entertainment in the bars in the hotel, so it is best suited for singles or couples not families.
DuBeau Route 66 International Hostel
9 West Phoenix Avenue
1-800-398-7112
The DuBeau Hostel was the first motel in the state of Arizona, built in 1927. This hostel isn't just for students. Accommodations are clean and neat but far from fancy. Though the price is sure right at about $20 per person for dorm-style rooms or $41-$48 for a private room. Both include breakfast. This is is only suited for adults.
Hotel Aspen: InnSuites Boutique Hotel
1008 E Route 66
928-774-7356
The Aspen is a unique boutique motel. Rooms here include a free hot breakfast and daily happy hour. A few blocks from downtown but rates are a bargain, with a mid price point in the $80s during peak season.
Nearby Cabins:
6355 N Highway 180 (at the base of Snowbowl Rd.)
928-779-1951
The Ski Lift Lodge is about 10 minutes from downtown, located at the base of Snowbowl Road. So you're situated for mountain fun whether it be riding the skyride, hiking, disc golf or snow play. Rooms here usually include free breakfast as well as tickets for either the skyride or the ski lift, in season.
Main Street, Mormon Lake, AZ
928-354-2227
This one's about 30 minutes southeast of town. All rooms are mountain-retreat like, most are cabins. They range from simple to deluxe, depending on the size cabin/room you want. Prices go from $54 (for a small cabin room) to $345 (for a 10-person cabin). This is a great romantic or family choice.
