One only has to drive down any of West Los Angeles' streets to see why Los Angeles ranks 184th on Allstate's Best Driver's Report. With a population of 3.8 million but an infrastructure fit for less than half that number of people, it is no surprise that L.A. nears the bottom of Allstate's list.
According to the list, L.A. residents can expect to have an accident every 6.8 years. Again, this should come as no surprise considering the condition of the city's roads.
Have city planners ventured on the 405 North lately? On the rare occasion the freeway is actually moving, drivers literally risk their lives if they happen to find themselves in the left lane just after the 10 freeway overpass. Just inches from the center divider, the left lane portion of the freeway is one of the most dangerous spots in West Los Angeles, even when traveling below posted speed limits.
And what about the pothole filled lanes of Wilshire Blvd., between Santa Monica Blvd., and Comstock? Even if one is lucky enough to navigate these uneven roads without an accident, who knows how many costly car repairs they will face after inevitably plunging into the deep ruts in the road?
A word to city officials - please take profits from the recent public parking fee hikes and put them to good use fixing the Los Angeles streets and freeways. Residents, and their cars, will thank you.
