Surprised by most, when Nielsen Soundscan released their 2011 Genre Sales Report, the top three genres with increased sales were: (1) Classical at 13%, (2) Electronic at 9%, and (3) New Age at 6%. The crossover of electronic and new age music has played a major role with this increase, creating more and more interest in the ambient genre and sub-genres that in essence produce most of today’s meditation, relaxation, spa, and yoga music.
This crossover example resembles the background of performing artist/producer O.M.aka Ovnimoon (Hector Stuardo) from Chile, who presents his first full length ambient album ‘Altona’, after 10+ years of successfully turning heads in the psy trance community. Ovnimoon has channeled a whole new level of classic low frequency space drone ambient music for this new release.
