“Come Celebrate the Work of Our Hands” is the motto of the 2010 Fiber and Folk Art Fair at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake through Sunday.
The Fair brings together vendors, instructors, guilds, and attendees to celebrate the “gentle art” of fibers. The Fair is inclusive of all fiber arts, including crochet, hand-spinning, knitting, weaving, quilting, felting, and rug hooking.
In addition to over 150 exhibitor booths, the Fair also includes:
- Full-day and half-day workshops on a variety of fiber art topics, along with polymer clay, color theory, and jewelry.
- One-hour mini classes using a lecture/demonstration style.
- Local guilds demonstrating and teaching introductory lessons in the fiber arts.
- Fine Fiber and Folk Exhibit, selected example of individual and aesthetic expression, using fiber arts techniques.
- The 2010 Garment Competition, presented by the Windy City Knitting Guild.
- The Do It Yourself Fashion On Parade, ongoing all weekend.
- Folk and acoustic music, courtesy of Woodstock’s Off Square Music.
- Awarding of the 2010 Fiber & Textile Award, a $2000 college scholarship, on Sunday at noon.
