Emotional wisdom: learn to leverage negative emotions

Ruth King

"Emotional Wisdom is an inner journey that reveals the depth of our true nature, yet this inner work is to be understood within the context of global oneness. We are not separate from what happens to and around us. Disturbances within our own hearts, relationships, communities, work, our land, the environment, and throughout the world, are the gross result of our collective thoughts and actions. Our responsibility as global citizens is to become emotionally wise, and in so doing, balance this global disorder.~ Ruth King

Have you ever had an encounter with someone that not only allowed you to see, but also to feel the deep roots, solid core and depth of wisdom that they embodied? That’s what happened when I sat down to talk to Ruth King.

Ruth has a rich background in psychology, coaching, management and consulting. As a result, she understands the personal needs of an individual as well as the group needs of a corporation. She's the accomplished author of the book Healing Rage, which was featured as an Oprah nugget. If I had sat down for coffee without knowing any of those things, I know with every fiber of my being that the presence of a woman full of wisdom, grace and pure emotion would have still been tangible. Through Ruth’s stories, I began to understand how her work with women’s retreats, healing rage and coed groups within corporate america expanded into a focus on emotional wisdom.

In Ruth's work with groups and organizations, she helps people identify what blocks hold them back and where negative emotions can be transformed into positive fuel. Not only does freedom from emotional tangles occur, but emotional growth finds life within the new wisdom being unearthed.

By using Emotional Wisdom to learn from our discomfort, we begin to nurture and heal those wounds within ourselves. This impacts us internally, but it also impacts those around us who are no longer punished through our negative emotions. We become free to live fully, open-heartedly and with confidence.

“Emotional Wisdom is the unique genius that is revealed when we unite intellect (mind) and intuition (body),” Ruth King. By understanding our own strengths, trusting our feelings (both ‘good’ and ‘bad’) and standing grounded in this knowledge, we create our legacy.  We identify our purpose. We identify who we are. Ruth has uncovered the misconception of needing to hide our flaws or negative feelings. Rather, she is asking us to embrace them and accept their teaching.

Ruth is fulfilling the purpose of Emotional Wisdom by working with men and women in the corporate world. With more than 20 years working as an organizational development consultant, executive coach and manager of training and development for clients that included Intel Corp and Levi Strauss, Ruth understands the emotions that run through the corporate blood stream. Expanding farther into the reaches of business, communication and leadership, she is transforming the way we interact, the way we lead and the way we listen to both ourselves and to our colleagues. As we weave into and out of people’s lives through business and personal interactions, what would be different if you understood the wisdom of your emotions?
