Eminem: Doctors are concerned about crash diets

                  Marshall Mathers aka Eminem

Eminem, the 36-year-old Grammy and Academy Award winning rapper recently dropped about 28 lbs by eliminating fatty, greasy fried foods and alcohol from his diet. That sounds like great news, but it seems that doctors are concerned Eminem could be become anemic if he continues to crash diet, while embarking on a strenuous 70-date European tour.

A tabloid insider close to the star had this to say,“He used to live off fried chicken, fries, burgers and his real favorite, drumsticks. Now he’s eating only grilled meats and fish, fruit and vegetables, but no refined carbs. His riders are unrecognizable from those of four years ago".

So what seems to be the problem? Em cut out alcohol, is eating healthy, works out on the treadmill and took up running last year. The doctors are concerned about the toll crash dieting has taken on his body over the years.

An article in the the Mirror quoted Dr. Morris Missler in Britain’s Daily Star as saying, "Even without a wildly energetic and adrenalin-charged job, crash dieters risk heart attacks and strokes, liver and kidney failure and most certainly death in extreme cases”.

Dr. Missler also says,"...this would be bad enough if he wasn’t living the non-stop life of a music superstar". "Crash diets are extremely dangerous for your heart, liver, kidneys and brain because you lose tissue around them. If you don’t eat enough, your body will actually burn the muscle tissue of the organs themselves to provide you with sufficient energy to function."

Some say he is thin, but looks great. Others are impressed by his lifestyle change. The Mirror reports, the doctors are concerned that Em's European tour may trigger a serious anemic disorder, which is the result of an iron deficiency. Over the years crash dieters are prone to lack sodium, potassium and vitamin B-12. Sodium and potassium help to regulate how the heart beats. Insufficient levels could cause a heart attack.

It sounds like he's doing all of the right things by cutting out deep fried foods and alcohol so I don't seem the problem...unless he's only consuming a very small amount of calories.

I'm impressed by him changing his diet. I'm sure in his profession, it's not easy to do. I've always liked Eminem, and I don't normally like rap music.

Changing his diet as much as he did takes a lot of willpower, so I am impressed. I can see the concerns of his doctor, but can't it be managed with some good multi-vitamins? At any rate, it's better than his prior lifestyle!
