Fat Boxing and 400 Calorie Fixes

There’s a hot trend in the fitness and weight loss community that involves the sharing of our various epiphanies as we come upon them. For me, it’s in the creation of the sport of Fat Boxing. For others, it’s those little adjustments in their attempts, which at first, may present themselves as fads. My Mama says, “Whatever gets you through the night is alright, alright…” The latest epiphany comes from Prevention magazine in the form of a weight loss formula called: the “400 Calorie Fix”.
I’m all in favor of the little finesses we achieve when making headway with our weight loss goals. And here’s is another strategy to try out in our quest for better health. The basic idea is to break down the calorie intake into four 400 calorie increments throughout the day. This is sensible and goes hand in hand with my latest strategy to keep my own intake down to a fistful at a time. Maybe if my “fistful” also consists of just 400 calories, I can get over this wall I’ve been running into. I’m going to try it and let you know how it works out for me, so stay tuned you Fat Boxing fans!
I’m also fooling around with my Basal Metabolic Rate. This is the rate at which my body burns calories just by my having a pulse. The whole idea is to burn more than you take in to lose weight. Each individual can factor in height, weight, and age to determine their BMR. The math on this, for you “number-philes” is:

For Men:
66.4730 +(6.23 x weight lbs.)+(12.7 x height in.)-(6.775 x age)= BMR

For Women:
655.0955 +(4.35 x weight lbs.)+(4.7 x height in.)-(4.6756 x age) = BMR

According to this formula, I need to BURN more than 1400 calories per day in order to lose weight. If I adjust the 400 calorie fix to a 300 calorie fix, I can get my intake to 1200.
I can burn about 600 just sitting around on my big fat butt all day, so that gives me 800+ to go. A leisurely 30 minute stroll will burn 200 calories. The rate at which I walk on the treadmill is about double that burn.
Mick, the old jalapeno, will have me burning even more with his “new plans” for my regimen. He hasn’t divulged it yet, but he’s been hanging out with his pal, Rita C. a lot lately. They’ve been scheming and whispering, and laughing like mad scientists behind closed doors. God have mercy.
Come by the Urban Think bookstore on Sunday, 11/22/09 1p-3p to cheer me on. I’ll be there doing a book signing for the book: “Fat Boxing, A Guide to Weight Loss.” Urban Think is located at 625 E. Central Avenue in Orlando, and is located right next door to The Hue restaurant in Thornton Park. I look forward to meeting you all and shaking hands!
