Dr. Michael Aziz takes a hormonal approach to weight loss with his new Perfect 10 Diet. It's not a low-fat or low-carb diet. Instead, the plan works on stabilizing hormone levels.
One crucial part of the diet is to NOT use low-fat versions of high-fat foods. We're talking coconut oil, butter, dark chocolate and olive oil. And the diet encourages eating carbs -- the low glycemic kind. Dr. Aziz encourages the use of saturated fats to switch the body from fat-storing mode to fat-burning mode.
(OMG, is this too good to be true? We'll have to see.)
Similar to the South Beach Diet, the plan first works on getting carb cravings under control. They are then reintroduced in latter stages. There are three stages to the eating plan, as outlined on The Perfect 10 Web site:
- Stage 1 (initiation-stage weight loss):
You eat 3 meals a day, and you have the option of having 1 to 2 snacks. Grains and alcohol are not allowed.
- Stage 2 (ongoing weight loss):
You eat 3 meals a day, but now you can add 1 to 3 servings of whole grains. You still have the option of eating 1 to 2 snacks. If you must drink alcohol, do so in small amounts.
- Stage 3 ( maintenance):
You eat 3 meals a day along with the option of having 1 to 2 snacks per day. You can increase whole grains to 3 or 4 servings a day. If you want to eat sweets, do so sparingly.
