This week on The Biggest Loser, John Crutchfield was sent home to join his twin brother James in their continuing journey to lose weight for the Biggest Loser season 9 finale.
But he's keeping his total weight loss a secret, even from his brother.
"We’ll see each other about once a week, size each other up," he said Wednesday afternoon in a conference call. "We’re secretly competing against each other." While Tuesday night's update at the end of the episode showed that he was down a total of 104 pounds, Crutchfield says he has put on a good deal of muscle but is still down "well over 100 pounds." He says he wants to keep the exact number under wraps.
But Super Bowl festivities will not derail Crutchfield's plans. "Football and chicken wings are one of my weaknesses," he said But he has a plan. "Grilled lemon pepper chicken wings – I love those," he said. He'll have a few of those grilled wings and perhaps a little of his favorite new dessert.
"There's a really low-calorie, no-sugar dessert that we love to make. It's kind of like a pudding pie," he said. "You mix one packet of sugar-free Jell-O with skim milk and then one container of fat-free, sugar-free Cool Whip and then blend it together, put it in this all-natural organic pie crust, put it in the fridge. It’s awesome if you’re trying to do something for a sweet tooth."
But he said that the cravings he had for certain foods were obliterated while at the Biggest Loser ranch. "Your taste buds really change when you’re at the ranch," he said. "Overly sweet or salty foods -- you almost can’t handle it."
One thing he does still crave: Mixed martial arts. That's his workout of choice now. "I need to do something that’s fun and will last forever. I’ve always been a fan of martial arts and found the greatest trainers," he said. "It’s just a totally different feel. The cardio is ridiculous, plus it’s fun." He said his goal now is to start training for ju jitsu belts. "I’ve always been fascinated" with the sport, he said. "You really get in touch with your limitations."
