Applebee's Weight Watchers menu spurs a lawsuit

Many people trying to lose weight have turned to Applebee's Weight Watchers menu because they knew what they were getting in calories, fat grams and Weight Watchers Points, which members tally up every day.

But earlier this year, a group Scripps Howard TV stations across the country sampled items from popular chain restaurants -- Applebee's as well as others like Taco Bell and Chili's -- and had the food professionally analyzed for nutritional values. Many of the results were surprising. In one case, Applebee's Cajun Lime Tilapia dish had twice as much fat and almost 100 more calories than advertised on the menu. Inaccuracies were found across the board.

As a result, a federal lawsuit has been filed in Kansas alledging that weight-loss organization and restaurant conspired to mislead customers about nutritional content of Weight Watchers menu. Wow. I've suspected you can't regulate the content of restaurant meals. Too many outlets with too many different cooks preparing and plating for uniform servings.

I agree that it's still a better option even with an extra 100 calories. Most restaurant meals are over 1000 calories.
