There are iPhone apps, Blackberry apps, Twitter apps, and more that help you track your weight loss efforts. Now, you can add one more device that helps tie it all together.
The Wi-Fi body scale by Withings could actually be considered Weight Loss 2.0. This is the first Wi-Fi scale that links to the internet and automatically registers your body weight, body fat, and BMI calculation. It also looks like something used on the space shuttle, too!
Here is how it works. The scale links directly to your secure account on the Withings website or to a free iPhone app supplied by Withings. The application is your dashboard where you can view all of the data collected by the scale in graphical format.
Everytime you take your readings, your body weight, body fat, and BMI will all be charted. Additionally, you can actually set up profiles for every member of your family (up to 8 profiles can be stored). The scale is smart enough to know who it is that is actually standing on the scale based on past readings.
Body fat scales have notoriously been inaccurate. Body fat scales use the Bioelectrical Impedance method to measure your body fat percentage. The most accurate way to measure body fat is through hydrostatic weighing. However, the exact measurement isn't as important as a consistent measurement. With a consistent measurement, you will better be able to track your progress.
If all that isn't enough, you can take weight loss accountability to a whole new level. You can actually have the Wither body scale automatically tweet your readings. Are you ready for that?
