Alternative to the commercial, part 1.

In the next few weeks we will be reviewing some gyms in the area that give you an alternative to the commercial gyms you see in the neighborhood. These gyms take a step back from the latest gimmick, and rely on solid old world training to help people reach the goals they have.

This week we will take a look at LoneStar Barbell Club. The gym is owned by Ron Carroll, and is located in the area of 290 and Barker Cypress. The gym has been around for over 10 years, but Ron has been in the weight community for over 25 years himself.

At LoneStar Barbell, hard work is the path you must follow. As Ron puts it "I have seen fads come and go, but hard work using basic exercises remains the best road to results." LoneStar Barbell is a private gym. There are two ways to become a member. First, hire Ron as your personal trainer. He helps everyone from the soccer mom to competitive athletes to the corporate executive, get in the best shape of their lives. Second, become a member of the LoneStar Barbell powerlifting team. This team consists of powerlifters and competitive athletes looking to better themselves for their sport. LoneStar currently has currently 10 members on the team.

LoneStar has everything you need to get results. The training gear consists of 2 power racks, one mono-lift attachment, lat pull/low row, leg extension, glute ham raise, 45 degree back raise, dip bars, dragging sled, blast straps, 2 olympic bars, safety squat bar, camber bar, buffalo bar, shrug bar, log bar, farmer's handles, bands, chains, kettle bells, dumbbells, med balls, and more.

Ron started LoneStar because he "remembers when gyms were gyms!!" They were the places that old and young, men and women came together to reach their personal bests. They were not the big "box gyms" of today. He says they were filled with people who were willing to pay the price, at the same time help the newcomers that stepped through the door.  Ron says,"At some point that changed and one day I woke up and saw neon lights, techno music, elliptical machines and bosu balls all around me. So I ran and never looked back."

LoneStar welcomes anyone who is willing to put in the work. LoneStar is looking to grow its membership, but Ron will be bringing the hard work work with him from the garage to a new commercial space. He has also formed a corporate wellness consulting firm where he designs daily training that will fit seamlessly into the workday.
