With such an eye catching name, it makes you wonder “what is it all about?” I wanted to know too, so I checked out the website and wrote to the creators to find out a little more about what was going on in the underground. Tanya Kummerow, an event planner, and Crystal Genes, a photographer, are both co-authors of the newest Charlotte bridal informational website. Their goal is close to mine: Get information to local brides!
Tanya - "We felt that as two women with our own small businesses just getting off the ground, we wanted to help others in the same position who might not get as much exposure but who offer something really unique that we feel needs to be seen. With our own creative spirits, we value the vendors in this industry who give more creative and more personalized services."
Crystal - "And we just love meeting others in the industry from all fields. It is inspiring and keeps us excited about what we love and what we do."
Crystal- "After many hours sitting in Panera and pages and pages in our notebook resulting from our brainstorming attempts, we finally hit what we were looking for. We just kept writing any crazy word that came into our head that could possibly relate to what we were going for.”
Tanya- "We both loved the word underground as soon as it was thought of because it exemplifies the fact that we want to focus mostly on those who aren't so exposed, or who are smaller mom & pop type businesses. The hardest part of the name after that was trying to figure out how to make it short enough for the blog address.”
Crystal- "I've been a photographer since I bought my first camera in 3rd grade. Even though I loved taking my camera everywhere and even studied photography in college, I didn't fully realize my passion until 6 years ago when my friend volunteered me to shoot her friend's wedding. When I realized how much I loved capturing real moments in people's real lives, not just staging a concept shoot for a school project, I was hooked. I started building my portfolio more towards this direction by asking random strangers to let me photograph them! I love getting those privileged glimpses and letting families see what I see when I'm given the chance to look into their moments and big life events.”
Tanya- "I'm in love with everything that has to do with weddings. I love giving a helping hand to the bride during her planning process and I love helping her make decisions and accompanying her to any shows or appointments. I currently focus mostly on wedding day coordination. Just being there to ensure things go smoothly and that the day is as stress-free as possible for everyone involved. My other passion is organizing races for a non-profit I helped get started here as a volunteer several years ago, Girls on the Run in Irredell County. They recently offered me an executive director position and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to do something else I love. Right now I am just learning to balance my time between both passions. Once I master that, perhaps in the future I will get more involved with wedding day styling as well. I currently use the NC Wedding Underground Blog as my "website" and plan to blog to start blogging more to that extent soon.”
