Color isn't just for bridesmaids anymore. From metallics to mint, brides are ditching virginal white for pops of color with elegant designs and details.
For the second in a series of wedding fashion trend articles, today we examine the rise of color, with the help of stylist Jeanne Chancellor, of course.
You don't have to be a rocker chick like Gwen Stefani to pull off a colored wedding dress, but you do have to throw caution to the wind and dare to be different. After all, you don't exactly have tradition on your side. But I say tradition schmradition. Right? Yeah. That's a word.
Our first dress comes to you courtesy of Reem Acra. Now close your eyes and imagine it without the insane eye lashes. While not a far cry from white, this metallic is edgy in color, but traditionally sassy in design.

Sarah Seven
However, if edgy is what you want, Sarah Seven delivers. The length, the belt, the color, the design ... where do I begin? This dress is sure to turn heads.

Monique Lhuillier
At the opposite end of the color spectrum, Monique Lhuillier offers a gorgeous nude option complete with accent sash and details galore. Paired with gold jewelry and a swept hairstyle, any bride can ditch the aisle for a catwalk.

Don't forget that color in wedding and engagement rings is ever so popular now more than ever. Not only because of the recession, but color makes a expression from tradition. Color center stones hit a more affordable price point along with a modern twist to an everyday ring. As art becomes more accessible to everyone, younger people are more open to thinking outside the box - wearing a colored wedding dress to wearing a colored stone in their wedding ring. Sapphires are particularly good for engagement rings because they are second in hardness only to diamond. A sapphire will stand up to years of everyday wear and still look great. And along with the traditional blue, they come in a myriad of wonderful colors.
Another advantage is that the highest quality sapphires are still a great value next to a comparable quality diamond. Check them out before insisting on plain vanilla.
