If the new social media wave has taught us anything, it's no relationship is official until a relationship status change has occurred on Facebook.
One couple recently took this fact to heart, ceremoniously changing their relationship status at their wedding reception!
The bride, Ellen Hampton Filgo, and her groom didn't meet online, but admits, "while we were getting to know each other, we definitely looked over each other's profile pages to get a sense for each other's interests: music, movies, books, etc."
Following a traditional ceremony, the couple bucked most traditions at their wedding reception. "We didn't have a first dance, or throw the bouquet or have a garter or anything like that," says Filgo, "so why not change our Facebook status ceremoniously?"
The couple also accommodated out-of-town guests by live-streaming the entire wedding ceremony and reception online using ustream.tv because they "had so many friends from around the country, and the world, who couldn't make the wedding."
"I don't think we're the kind of people who might change their statuses from iPhones at the altar after saying I Do," says Filgo. "The ceremony was sacred to us. But the reception? That's fair game."
